BYD Teases Second-Gen Seal 07: A Bigger, Sleeker Sedan With EV and PHEV Options

BYD has pulled the wraps off the exterior of its second-generation Seal 07, giving the world an early look at a sedan that has grown in nearly every direction. The reveal came via images shared on Weibo by Zhang Zhuo, who leads sales for the brand’s Ocean series, framing the car as a roomy mid-to-large family sedan. No price tag or on-sale date accompanied the preview.

The redesign brings a more aggressive front fascia, restyled daytime running lights, a sweeping fastback roofline and a rear light bar that spans the full width of the tail. Semi-concealed door handles and a roof-mounted LiDAR pod also appear in the photos, though BYD stayed quiet on what driver-assistance features or trim-specific equipment buyers can expect.

Dimensionally, the new Seal 07 stretches to 5,080 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, riding on a 2,960 mm wheelbase. That makes it 85 mm longer and 50 mm wider than the battery-electric Seal 07 EV that arrived in March, with the wheelbase gaining 60 mm while height carries over unchanged. Regulatory filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in early August had already outlined both electric and plug-in hybrid versions, all seating five.

Electric variants will reportedly deliver peak motor outputs of 245 kW and 300 kW — both exceeding the 240 kW unit in the earlier EV — paired with lithium iron phosphate batteries and a 240 km/h top speed. The plug-in hybrid keeps the Seal 07 DM-i badge. The preview lands roughly seven months after the Seal 07 EV hit the market in March, priced from 169,900 yuan, and follows a September 2025 refresh of the DM-i lineup.
