BYD Expands Ocean Series with New Sealion 08 SUV, Aiming for Premium Segment

BYD has officially unveiled the Sealion 08, a new mid-to-large SUV that bolsters its Ocean lineup’s push into the flagship market. The model arrives in both battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, signaling the brand’s strategy to cover diverse powertrain preferences while strengthening its presence in the competitive SUV segment.

Underpinning the Sealion 08 is BYD’s latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo, which supports ultra-fast ‘flash charging’ capability. For the BEV version, this translates to quicker top-ups, addressing one of the key concerns among EV adopters. Meanwhile, the PHEV version offers an extended total driving range of up to 900 km under the CLTC cycle, positioning it as a practical option for long-distance travel without frequent charging stops.

The vehicle’s design language stays true to the Ocean aesthetic, featuring sleek lines and a modern cabin tech suite. With its dual powertrain strategy and focus on charging efficiency, the Sealion 08 is set to compete directly with popular SUVs in the 200,000-300,000 yuan bracket. Deliveries are expected to begin later this year, marking a significant step in BYD’s ongoing effort to elevate its Ocean series and capture more upscale buyers.
