BMW Unveils iX3 M60 xDrive: The Most Powerful Neue Klasse SUV Yet

BMW has pulled the wraps off the iX3 M60 xDrive, the punchiest member of its Neue Klasse electric SUV family to date. The dual-motor setup puts one electric unit at each axle, combining for a peak 450 kW (612 hp) and a 0-100 km/h sprint of just 3.9 seconds. Adaptive M suspension comes as standard, and the whole package is positioned as the sporting flagship of the lineup. Order books are set to open at the end of January 2027.

As an M Performance variant, the iX3 M60 is meant to fuse the brand’s engineering leap with genuine driver appeal. BMW says its “Heart of Joy” control unit and M Dynamic Performance Control process driving data in milliseconds, sharpening throttle and chassis responses for a more direct feel. Steering wheel paddles let drivers actively tune how the M eDrive system behaves, while a speed-sensitive sound design and dynamic feedback aim to deliver the emotive character buyers expect from an M-badged machine. Maximum WLTP range is quoted at up to 754 km (468 miles), and charging peaks at 400 kW.

Visually, the M60 leans hard into motorsport cues. New M Yellow Lights, inspired by race cars such as the BMW M Hybrid V8, act as its signature front-end feature, accompanied by three illuminated elements echoing the brand’s M stripes and an M logo built into the light signature. The Iconic Glow exterior package, M Sport trim and 21-inch M light-alloy wheels are standard, with 22-inch M aerodynamic wheels reserved for this performance model alone. A black diffuser, an M-specific roof-edge spoiler with twin aeroblades and an “M60” badge round out the rear.

Inside, the cabin carries the Neue Klasse approach to driver orientation further than before. BMW Panoramic iDrive, running Operating System X, brings together Panoramic Vision projection, a free-cut central display and an M Sport steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marker. A 3D head-up display is optional. Customers will be able to choose from a broad paint palette, including 25 special-request finishes at launch.

Production is scheduled to kick off in spring 2027 at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, the same site building the wider iX3 range. With the M60, BMW is signalling that its electric era will not be about efficiency alone, but also about the performance heritage that has long defined its M division.
