BMW Pushes Its Electric Flagship i7 Toward the Chauffeur Trade

BMW has long positioned the 7 Series at the peak of its sedan range, and the all-electric i7 rides that same wave as the brand’s technology flagship. For the latest update, the automaker has moved the model onto much of the hardware and software developed for its Neue Klasse family, while keeping the familiar, imposing sedan proportions that define this class of car. A slightly trimmed take on BMW’s oversized kidney grille remains, now available with an illuminated surround, flanked by slimmer crystal-look headlights that replace the older stacked arrangement.
Step inside and the i7 leans heavily into screens and digital services. A 17.9-inch floating center display anchors the dashboard, joined by BMW’s Panoramic Vision strip and a 14.6-inch screen for the front passenger. Rear occupants get a 31.3-inch 8K theatre display that folds down from the headliner, useful for both entertainment and getting work done between appointments. The cabin runs on BMW Operating System X, complete with a voice assistant that draws on Amazon Alexa+ AI, and comfort is handled by ergonomically shaped seats plus adaptive two-axle air suspension fitted as standard.
Underneath, the sedan adopts BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive setup, shared with the new iX3. A 113 kWh battery delivers as much as 447 miles (720 km) on the WLTP cycle, while BMW estimates up to 362 miles of EPA range for the 2027 model year in the United States. Those figures, paired with the quiet, air-suspended ride, are presumably part of why BMW believes the car suits professional chauffeur work so well.
That belief has now taken concrete form in the UK, where BMW has rolled out a dedicated Chauffeur Program built around both the combustion 7 Series and the electric i7. The package is aimed at cutting downtime for operators and helping drivers grow their businesses, bundling a five-year service plan with unlimited mileage, a one-year BMW Security PRO subscription for 24/7 tracking and protection, and Mobility Support that provides a licensed replacement vehicle or assistance during warranty repairs. High-voltage battery coverage stretches to eight years or 100,000 miles, and buyers who place an eligible i7 order before the end of 2026 also receive a complimentary Pod home charger.
The scheme is open to licensed private hire operators, chauffeur firms, executive transport providers, luxury hotel fleets, corporate and VIP transport services, and self-employed chauffeurs, though taxi operators are excluded. American buyers do not get an equivalent program, but the 2027 i7 50 xDrive is already on sale at $106,200, with the more powerful i7 60 xDrive starting at $124,700.
