BMW Opens US Order Books for the 2027 i3 Ahead of Schedule

American buyers can now claim a build slot for BMW’s new-generation i3 electric sedan, with the reservation window going live roughly a week earlier than the company had signalled. A $1,000 deposit secures a place in line, and dealership handovers are slated to kick off during the first quarter of 2027.

The launch version is the i3 50 xDrive, an all-wheel-drive model pairing two electric motors for a combined 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque. BMW quotes a 0-60 mph sprint of 4.5 seconds and an EPA-estimated driving range of as much as 468 miles. Shoppers can pick between Sport, M Sport and M Sport Professional trims, all of which come with the Driving Assistant Plus package and Shadowline exterior detailing as standard equipment.

Pricing in the US configurator starts at 61,500beforea61,500 before a 1,350 destination fee. German buyers pay €65,900, while UK customers face a £53,005 entry point — those European order books opened back in June. The second model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture after the iX3 SUV, the i3 relies on the brand’s sixth-generation eDrive hardware, an 800-volt electrical system with up to 400 kW DC charging and a native NACS connector. Adding around 208 miles of range in ten minutes is possible on a suitably powerful charger, according to BMW. Series production is already underway at the Munich plant.
