BMW Opens 2027 i3 Orders Early: Up to 468 Miles, Starting at $61,500

BMW has begun taking reservations for its all-new 2027 i3 sedan in the US, pulling the order books open about a week ahead of schedule after demand ran hotter than the company anticipated. Buyers can configure the car with a $1,000 deposit through BMW’s website.

At launch, only one version is offered: the i3 50 xDrive. Its two-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces a combined 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque, enough for a 0-60 mph run of 4.5 seconds. Built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture and the sixth-generation eDrive system, the sedan carries an estimated EPA range of 446 to 468 miles per charge. An 800-volt electrical system supports DC fast charging at rates up to 400 kW, which BMW says can add 191 to 208 miles of range in about ten minutes, and the car comes with a native NACS port for Tesla Supercharger access without an adapter. It also supports bidirectional charging for vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-home use.

Inside, the i3 introduces BMW’s Panoramic Vision full-width windshield display, a 17.9-inch central screen running Operating System X, and an optional 3D head-up display. The 50 xDrive starts at $61,500, or$62,850 once the $1,350 destination charge is included, matching the price of the new iX3 SUV. That positioning puts it well above the Tesla Model 3 at$38,630 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV at $47,250. A sportier i3 60 xDrive with M-specific touches, including a new front light graphic and optional M Yellow Lights, will join the range in 2027 at a price BMW has not yet disclosed. In Europe, the sedan has already racked up more than 100,000 orders.
