BMW iX4 Unveiled: A Fully Electric SUV Coupé Joins the Neue Klasse

BMW has expanded its Neue Klasse lineup with the introduction of the fully electric iX4, a Sports Utility Vehicle in coupé form. Set to launch in March 2027, the iX4 represents a significant technological leap forward for the brand, blending expressive design with advanced electric drive systems.

The new iX4 features a striking coupé-like silhouette, characterised by a sporty roofline, long wheelbase, and short overhangs. The front end showcases BMW’s iconic kidney grille and twin headlights, now merged into a single graphic unit. The flagship iX4 M60 xDrive variant adds M-specific design elements, including M Yellow Lights inspired by racing cars and a special M rear spoiler. Slim, horizontally arranged rear lights and a black diffuser complete the muscular rear appearance.

At launch, two drive system variants will be available, followed shortly by the range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive. This flagship model features dual electric motors—one on each axle—delivering a combined maximum output of 450 kW (612 hp) and 875 Nm (645 lb-ft) of torque. The iX4 is built on the Neue Klasse architecture, purpose-developed for electric models, which provides generous interior space despite the elegant roofline. The interior is bathed in light thanks to large windows and a standard panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing.

The cabin introduces a new level of driver orientation with BMW Panoramic iDrive and Operating System X. This system integrates four central elements: BMW Panoramic Vision, BMW 3D Head-Up Display, a 17.9-inch Central Display, and a sports steering wheel with shy-tech controls. The M60 xDrive variant includes M Sport seats with ten-way electric adjustment as standard, while other models offer a choice of seven interior configurations. Standard equipment includes the M Sport package with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and M Sport brakes, with 21-inch wheels standard on the M60 and optional 22-inch wheels across the range. The BMW Iconic Glow exterior package, featuring adaptive light functions, is standard on the M60 and optional on other variants.

The iX4 marks the debut of BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive technology, a standout innovation of the Neue Klasse. With nine exterior colours initially available, expanding to include Frozen finishes from March 2027 and further BMW Individual options later, the iX4 is positioned to make a bold statement in the fully electric portfolio. This model underscores BMW’s commitment to advancing electric mobility while maintaining its signature sporting character.
