BMW Expands Electric Lineup: iX5 60 xDrive Orders Open, iX3 Gains All-Wheel-Drive Variant

BMW is broadening its battery-electric portfolio with two significant announcements: the order window for the flagship iX5 60 xDrive opens on 8 October 2026, and a new all-wheel-drive version of the iX3 joins the range. Production of the iX5 is slated to begin in December, while the iX3 40 xDrive will roll off the line starting February 2027.
The iX5 60 xDrive marks BMW’s first electric SUV flagship to adopt an 800-volt architecture. Its dual-motor setup delivers a peak 425 kW, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. Torque peaks at 805 Nm. A 141 kWh battery provides a WLTP range of up to 845 km, and DC fast charging at up to 460 kW can replenish the pack from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 23 minutes. At home, the iX5 supports AC charging at up to 22 kW. Although BMW has not confirmed pricing, media speculation puts the sticker above €100,000.
Positioned within BMW’s Neue Klasse family, the iX5 measures 4,994 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and 1,742 mm tall. It features sixth-generation eDrive technology, Gen6 round cells, BMW Panoramic Vision, and the OS X operating system. The autumn 2026 update also enhances OS X with expanded entertainment options, including Amazon Prime Video integration, and introduces the BMW Drive Challenge, a feature that monitors and evaluates driving inputs such as steering, acceleration, and braking in real time. BMW Maps gains a 3D view from October 2026, merging navigation, surroundings, and assistance systems into one visualisation.
The new iX3 40 xDrive slots into the lineup at €65,900, joining the existing rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 and the iX3 50 xDrive. Its dual-motor arrangement produces 275 kW and 520 Nm, cutting the 0-100 km/h time to 5.6 seconds. An 82.6 kWh battery yields a WLTP range of up to 621 km. BMW is also adding Mineral White metallic and additional Individual paint finishes to the iX3 catalogue, along with standard-fit Wireless Charging Tray Plus and Travel & Comfort Adapter on the front seatbacks. Optional multi-contour and sports seats gain illuminated adjustment switches, while exterior tweaks include a high-gloss black roof rail and revised brake calliper geometry for the M Sport brake.
Finally, the i7 receives a modest autumn update, adding an optional digital interior mirror and auxiliary heating, plus new two-tone paint options. The moves underscore BMW’s push to electrify its core segments while refining the ownership experience through software and personalisation.
