BMW and Toyota Expand Hydrogen Partnership to Bring FCEVs to More Passenger Cars

BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corporation are deepening their long-running collaboration with a sharper focus on fuel cell electric vehicles for passenger cars. The two automakers describe the move as taking their joint work to the next level, signaling that hydrogen-powered models will play a larger role in their future lineups.
The partnership builds on years of shared development work between the German and Japanese manufacturers. By pooling resources on fuel cell technology, both companies aim to spread the cost of development and bring FCEV options to a wider range of customers.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles remain a small slice of the global market, but BMW and Toyota have consistently argued that the technology suits drivers who need long range and fast refueling. Their expanded tie-up suggests both see a durable role for hydrogen alongside battery-electric cars.
