Audi May Hand Its Four-Ring Brand in China to FAW as SAIC Deal Focuses on the AUDI Nameplate

Audi May Hand Its Four-Ring Brand in China to FAW as SAIC Deal Focuses on the AUDI Nameplate

Audi is reportedly preparing to consolidate its traditional four-ring passenger car business in China under its long-standing partner FAW, while the collaboration with SAIC would be steered toward the newer AUDI-branded lineup. The move would effectively draw a clearer line between the two partnerships, one handling the established Audi identity and the other carrying the electric-focused AUDI label.

According to the report, the arrangement is still at the discussion stage: no formal contract has been signed, and there is no confirmed timeline for when any handover would take effect. That leaves the structure of Audi’s Chinese operations unsettled for now, even as the brand tries to streamline how its two local alliances are positioned.

Audi has worked with FAW for decades, giving that partnership deep roots in manufacturing and dealer networks. The more recent SAIC tie-up was set up with a different brief, aimed at models wearing the uppercase AUDI badge. Splitting responsibilities this way could reduce overlap and let each side focus on a distinct slice of the market.

Until paperwork is finalised, the plan remains a report rather than a done deal. Buyers and dealers watching Audi’s China strategy should treat the shift as a signal of intent, not an immediate change to products or showrooms.
