Ampol Moves to Buy Evie Networks in AU$225 Million Charging Deal

Australian fuel supplier Ampol is set to take over charging operator Evie Networks after its energy arm signed a deal worth AU$225 million (roughly €135 million) for full ownership of the company behind the network.

The purchase covers Fast Cities Australia, the entity running Evie Networks. It still needs regulatory clearance and is slated to be finalised in the first half of 2027, with both charging businesses continuing to run separately in the meantime. The acquisition would push Ampol’s total charging footprint to around 1,425 bays spread over more than 400 locations, adding over 1,030 bays to what it already operates.

Ampol frames the move as a way to build scale faster, pointing to Evie’s well-established sites, long-term leases and ready grid connections as key assets. CEO Matt Halliday described charging investment as a matter of picking the right moment based on customer habits, EV adoption, site economics and network strength. The company has already been expanding its AmpCharge brand, including Australia’s first 400 kW ABB A400 ultra-fast chargers at a ten-bay hub on Sydney’s M4 motorway, built to serve electric trucks and larger vehicles.

Evie Networks has been assembling a fast-charging corridor linking Australia’s major cities, with an early blueprint calling for more than 80 ultra-fast stations across 42 sites. Its existing network saw charging sessions jump 116 per cent in the first half of 2026, while the energy it delivered climbed 120 per cent over the same period.
